HOUSE INDEX DEBUTS JUNE 5

IN KEY WEST CITIZEN

The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District will debut a new House Index in the Sunday June 5, 2011 edition - Section A - of the Key West Citizen.  The House Index is a percent of homes inspected during the week that have the Aedes aegypti  mosquito larvae.

The Aedes aeqypti  is the species of mosquito that will transmit the Dengue Fever virus.  The intent of this Index is to help inform the Key West citizenry of the extent of these mosquitoes in their particular neighborhoods and to encourage everyone to eliminate all standing water that can breed mosquitoes.  The areas highlighted in Red indicate where the highest concentrations have been found over the past week.
