Public Education and Outreach 

Community participation is one of the most effective tools for reducing mosquitoes and preventing mosquito-borne diseases. While the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District works year-round to manage mosquito populations, residents and visitors play an important role in keeping our communities healthy. 

FKMCD is committed to educating the public through community events, festivals, school programs, and outreach activities that promote mosquito awareness and public health.

You can help reduce mosquito populations around your home by taking a few simple steps:

  • Eliminate standing water wherever possible.
  • Empty, turn over, or cover containers that can collect rainwater.
  • Flush water-holding plants, such as bromeliads, at least once each week.
  • Cover stored boats or ensure they drain properly after rainfall.

Throughout the year, FKMCD participates in community events across the Florida Keys to share mosquito prevention tips, answer questions, and highlight the important work of mosquito control. Browse the gallery below to see photos from recent outreach events.
