Mosquito Control Open House - 2026

Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) opened its doors this Spring for a compelling, behind the scenes view of professional mosquito control.

The day was April 18, 2026, which conincided with the start of Mosquito Control Awarness Week in Florida. The public had tons of questions:

  • What makes a mosquito bite one person and not another?
  • How high do those spray helicopters fly?
  • What is that stuff you are dropping from that helicopter?
  • Did your pilots fly for the MIlitary?

FKMCD staged two aerial spray runs during the event. One simulating a liquid spray event and the other using a simulated granular product.

In addition, the District's Biology and Research staff were available to answer questions about mosquito and mosquito larvae biology at several learning stations that were on display.

Mosqutio control field Inspectors were also on hand with displays featuring FKMCD equipment including spray trucks, backpack spray equipment, barrier spray equipment, boats, etc.
